A Land Without Flowing Rivers: Saudi Arabia’s Unique Landscape

A Land Without Rivers

It might sound surprising, but Saudi Arabia is one of the largest countries in the world that has no permanent rivers. Instead of flowing rivers, this desert kingdom relies on other water sources like underground aquifers and man-made reservoirs to sustain its population and agriculture.

How They Manage Without Rivers

Saudi Arabia’s lack of rivers doesn’t mean the country lacks water. It uses advanced desalination technology to convert seawater from the Persian Gulf and the Red Sea into drinking water. The country is a global leader in desalination, supplying more than half of its water through this process.

Fun Fact

Saudi Arabia isn’t the only country without rivers! Vatican City and Monaco also don’t have natural flowing rivers, but they are much smaller in comparison.
